This website is a tribute to George Litchfield, his crew, and all service men and women that served in Bomber Command.

51% of Bomber Command aircrew were killed on operations, 12% were killed or wounded in non-operational accidents and 13% became prisoners of war or evaders.
George was born 17th December 1922 in Bedford, England and was killed in action 2nd January 1944 on his 11th mission. George was 21 years old.
One-quarter of Bomber Command was made up of personnel from the British Commonwealth. Although born in Bedford, England, George flew in the RAAF with a mostly Australian crew. Learn more.

George was based at RAF Bottesford & Waddington in 467 Squadron, RAAF. He flew on 11 missions on five individual Lancasters. They hit Munich (twice), Hagen, Hanover, Leipzig (twice), Kassel, Dusseldorf, Berlin (twice), and Frankfurt. Learn more.
George was lost with his entire crew on 2nd January 1944. The crash site was at Altmerdingsen, 18 miles northeast of Hanover, Germany. All eight crew members were killed. Learn more.
George was originally buried in Altmerdingsen at the site of the crash and then transferred to Hanover Military Cemetery in 1947. Learn more.
